Curses. Foiled again. #14

posted Sun, 01 May 2005

I went back to the cat rescue place this morning after church. I filled out the cat adoption application. Even considered getting two cats as I am gone most of the day and cats, they are social animals and need company.

I forgot that cat rescue people are very protective. If they don’t want the cats to kill rats (a natural function of cats, let us not forget), they for sure do not want the cats to – gasp! – go outside.

I checked the box next to indoor/outdoor cat. In the summer, I like to have the doors and windows open when I am at home. The cat(s) would probably wander outside at some point. So sue me.

When the cat lady got to that question, the blood drained from her face. She grew still.

“You want an outdoor cat?” she whispered, as if I had written that I planned to stick hot needles in the cat’s eyes just for fun.

Um, yes, I answered.

“I’m afraid I can’t approve this adoption,” she said regretfully.

I knew it was useless to protest. All of a sudden I remembered I had tried to adopt from this place a couple of years ago and was denied for the exact same reason. (How could I have forgotten?)
